Part-time Clerk

Hours - 8 hours per week
Location: William Hobbayne Centre (remote working possible)
Accountable to: Chair of Trustees & Office Lead
About Us

The Charity of William Hobbayne is a small, friendly organisation dedicated to making a meaningful difference to the lives of local people in need. We're looking for a skilled bookkeeper to join our team and help keep our finances running smoothly — so we can focus on what matters most.

About the role

Good governance is what gives a charity its integrity. This role sits at the centre of the charity's decision-making – supporting the Trustee Board to meet, minute and follow through.

You will be the keeper of the record and the person who makes sure nothing slips through the gaps. Precision, discretion and a good understanding of how a charity board operates are essential.

What You'll Do
  • Preparing and circulating agendas and supporting papers for all Trustee meetings

  • Taking accurate, clear minutes and distributing them promptly

  • Maintaining governance records and keeping them up to date

  • Tracking decisions and following up on outstanding actions

  • Supporting trustees with administrative queries and filing

  • Ensuring governance processes are consistent with Charity Commission requirements

What we're looking for
  • Proven experience as a clerk, board secretary or in a governance support role

  • Excellent written English and the ability to produce clear, accurate minutes

  • Highly organised with a systematic approach to records and follow-up

  • Discreet and professional when handling sensitive or confidential matters

  • Familiar with charity governance frameworks, or willing to develop this quickly

  • Able to work to deadlines with minimal supervision

Why this role
  • A strong team player who brings a collaborative and supportive approach to their work – keeping trustees and staff informed and connected through clear, timely communication

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive, trust-based relationships with colleagues, trustees, volunteers and the wider community

  • Good communication skills and the confidence to share ideas, raise concerns and contribute constructively in a small team

  • Flexible and willing to help out beyond their core remit when the charity needs it
