Grants Officer

Hours: 8 hours per week
Location: William Hobbayne Centre (remote working possible)
Accountable to: Trustees (Grants Committee) & Office Lead
About the role

Grants are the oldest part of what we do. Since the 1700s, the charity has used William Hobbayne's legacy to provide practical help to families, schools and individuals in Hanwell facing difficulty – from food and clothing then, to the kinds of support people need now.

As Grants Officer, you will guide applicants through the process, support the Grants Committee to make good decisions, and make sure every grant awarded is tracked and its impact understood.

What You'll Do
  • Providing advice and guidance to individuals and organisations on grant eligibility and applications

  • Processing applications and managing urgent referrals in a timely manner

  • Monitoring grant outcomes and maintaining accurate records

  • Building and maintaining relationships with sponsors

  • Signpost clients to relevant organisations in our networks

  • Maintain a accurate network database

  • Preparing reports for trustees ahead of Grants Committee meetings

  • Attending the Grants Committee and liaising closely with relevant trustees

What we're looking for
  • Experience in grants administration, advice work, case management or a related role

  • Empathetic and professional when working with individuals in difficult circumstances

  • Strong organisational and record-keeping skills

  • Clear, careful written and verbal communication

  • An understanding of the needs of communities in Ealing or similar boroughs

Working with us
  • A strong team player who brings a collaborative and supportive approach to their work – keeping colleagues and trustees informed so grant decisions are well-supported and consistent

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive, trust-based relationships with colleagues, trustees, volunteers and the wider community

  • Good communication skills and the confidence to share ideas, raise concerns and contribute constructively in a small team

  • Flexible and willing to help out beyond their core remit when the charity needs it
